Anime Influence

In 2025, Vivienne Westwood released a collection to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of the anime NANA. There are two main characters which are polar opposites fashion wise. One of them wears light pastel colors, opting for a more cute look. The other is more stereotypically punk and enjoys wearing dark colors. There were pieces created inspired by something each character would wear. The collaboration honored the long standing relationship between the fashion house and the story’s creator, Ai Yazawa, whose characters famously wear Westwood pieces throughout the series.

The collection is yet another example of how the brand dominated Japanese fashion culture. The pieces were a success and were sold out almost instantly as soon as the line launched.
